Music Master of the Rattanakosin Period

Krue Euah Suntornsanan, the founder of the Suntaraporn Orchestra, was one of the major musical composers of the Ratanakosin Period. His versatility was obvious in his ability to play many kinds of musical instrument and he was also a singer, a composer, the leader of musical group, a conductor and a music teacher all in one. He was the first Thai musical artist to be honoured by the United Nations Educationan, Scientic and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an important person of the world in 2010, the year which concides with the centenary of his birth.

The songs written by Khrue Eauh Suntornsanan are considered to be literary and musical masterpieces, which harmoniously blen Thai classical music with Western Music. His songs are thus uniuqe and have been taken to be the prototype of Western-style Thai music today. Some of his well-known compositions are Khor Hai Muen Derm, Nang Fah Chumlaeng, Wang Namwon and Pran Loh Neau. He also wrote songs for the celebration of different festivals; for example Sawasdee Phi Mai, Songkran and Rumwong Wan Loy Krathong. These songs have been remembered and sung by Thais until the present day.
