The 2011 World Championships will again feature the 5 aquatics disciplines: swimming, water polo, diving, open water, and synchronized swimming.
Portions of these championships will most likely serve as part of the qualifying for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Mascot
The character’s name is Jing Jing. As you can see, it is an anthropomorphic pair of swimming goggles. The name Jing Jing is taken from the Chinese character for crystal (晶) which was chosen to represent the water’s glistening surface.
Furthermore, ‘jing’ is also the Chinese word for ‘gold’—as in gold medal—and sounds similar to the character for ‘progress’ or ‘move forward.’ In short, the name was chosen to embody the spirit of the athletes boldly pushing themselves forward for the gold.

This swimming-only championships took place in the Dubai Sports Complex; all events were swum in a 25-meter (short-course) pool.
Ehmisa is the traditional Arabic name for turtle, and is pronounced eh-misa. Ehmisa, along with his brothers and sisters, are known as Green Sea Turtles, one of only two species that are native to the UAE. Late one night in 2002, Ehmisa was born on the beach in a Dubai turtle sanctuary. The excited young turtles immediately swam out to sea and enjoyed many adventures growing up in the warm waters of the Arabian Gulf, just off the coast of Dubai. Growing up, Ehmisa watched in awe at the amazing growth taking place in his home city. When Ehmisa heard about the wonderful swimming champs that are taking place in Dubai later this year, he decided he wanted to be part of these championships and so he returned to Dubai and joined the team.

Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) is the International Federation (IF) recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for administering international competition in the aquatic sports (its name translated from French is "International Swimming Federation"). It is one of several IFs which administers a given sport/discipline for the IOC and/or international community. It is based in Lausanne, Switzerland.
FINA currently oversees competition in five aquatic sports:
swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, water polo and open water swimming.

The competition took place at three locations in central Melbourne: the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (diving and water polo), St Kilda Beach (open water), and Rod Laver Arena in a temporary pool christened the Susie O'Neill Pool (synchro and swimming).

Montréal 2005 • the 11th FINA World Aquatics Championships

or the XI FINA World Championships
were held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada from July 16 to July 31, 2005.
They took place in Parc Jean-Drapeau on Saint Helen's Island.
The FINA, otherwise known as Federation Internationale de Nation, sporting competition occurs each summer, and is the highlight to all of the competing athletes and spectators alike. In July of 2005, Montreal, Canada hosted the FINA games where more than 2000 athletes from over 160 countries came together to compete in various water sports. Competitions included water polo, open water swimming, synchronized swimming, diving, and pool swimming. To commemorate the event, Canada issued the 11th FINA World Watersports sheetlet which featured postage stamps that showcased the sport of springboard diving.
Here’s an interesting bit of trivia that shows just how powerful the governing body of FINA is in the aquatic sports world. In a somewhat shocking turn of events, the FINA Congress voted this summer to amend the requirements for allowable swimsuits for both men and women’s competitions. From this point forward, all men competitors will only be allowed to wear waist to knee swimsuits (Jammers) and the women swimsuits will be only be allowed below the neck to above the knee. This is a huge change from what we have seen in the past and it will be interesting to see if it affects the competitor’s ability to win gold medals in the future. Additionally, those who have set records using the previously used “super swimsuits” will now be officially noted in the record books forever, by having their names “asterisked” stating that they used that type of swimsuit.
