นิทรรศการนี้นำเสนอผลงานสีน้ำของศิลปินนักวาดภาพทางพฤกษศาสตร์มือหนึ่งของอินเดีย "เหมลตา ประธาน" เหมลตาเป็นทายาทของตระกูล "ประธาน" ซึ่งเป็นเจ้าของโรงเลี้ยงกล้วยไม้ในหุบเขาคาลิมปง รัฐสิกขิมมาตลอด 3 ชั่วอายุคน เหมลตาเป็นคนมีพรสวรรค์ เธอเรียนจบปริญญาโททางด้านภาพเขียนธรรมชาติวิทยาจาก Royal College of Art กรุงลอนดอน ประเทศอังกฤษ ทุกวันนี้ ภาพวาดทางพฤกษศาสตร์ที่สร้างสรรค์ด้วยทักษะและฝีมือชั้นยอดเช่นนี้หาชมได้ยากมาก ด้วยฝีมือของเหมลตา เหล่ากล้วยไม้และพันธุ์ไม้ต่างๆ นอกจากจะดูงดงามราวมีชีวิตแล้ว ยังมีรายละเอียดที่ถูกต้องทางวิทยาศาสตร์ สามารถใช้เป็นหลักฐานอ้างอิงในการศึกษากล้วยไม้ที่ใกล้สูญพันธุ์ได้ด้วย จึงเป็นโอกาสดีที่ผู้รักกล้วยไม้ชาวไทยจะได้ชื่นชมภาพทางพฤกษศาสตร์เหล่านี้ซึ่งมีความเป็นมายาวนานหลายร้อยปี ภาพของเหมลตา ประธานเป็นที่ยอมรับของพิพิธภัณฑ์ต่างๆ รวมทั้งนักสะสม ผลงานของเธอได้รับเกียรติให้จัดแสดงใน British Museum และ Royal Botanic Gardens ที่ Kews ประเทศอังกฤษ เช่นเดียวกับประเทศภูฎานที่ได้นำภาพวาดของเหมลตาไปทำเป็นแสตมป์กล้วยไม้ของประเทศ

Watercolour Paintings of Unique and Exquisite Orchids and other plants of the Himalayas

Botanical illustration is a genre that reflects the development of art and science for over 500 years. In the Renaissance there was an interest in naturalism and expeditions that left Europe in search for new lands led to new discoveries of plant species. In the 17th and 18th century, botanical art gained popularity in the west, especially England and Scotland where gardening became popular among aristocrats who began collecting and cataloguing exotic and native plants. Sadly, this genre faded in modern times.

This exhibition features watercolour paintings by India's foremost botanical painters - Hemlata Pradhan. A gifted child in the Pradhan family that runs orchid nursery for three generations in the hills of Kalimpong, Sikkim, Hemalta Pradhan graduated with a Master's Degree in Natural History Illustration from the Royal College of Art, London. It is rare in today's world to see such a talent in botanical illustrations: plants and orchids not only become alive in her paintings but also the paintings are scientific records of vanishing species. It is a treat for orchid lovers in Thailand to see these traditional botanical illustrations. Pradhan’s works have been exhibited at the British Museum and are in the collection of Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, England. The Kingdom of Bhutan also commissioned her for their orchid stamps.

India Post released a set of 2 stamp and a Miniature Sheet to commemorate 150 years of Rabindranath Tagore birth anniversary.

Rabindranath Tagore was born on May 7, 1861 in Calcutta (now Kolkata). He was a poet, philosopher, musician, writer, and educationist.He was popularly called as Gurudev and his songs were popularly known as Rabindrasangeet.The Indian national anthem " the Jana Gana Mana" is composed by him, he is also the writer of the national anthem of Bangladesh "Amar Shonar Bangla".Rabindranath Tagore won the Nobel Prize for his collection of poems, Gitanjali, in 1913, the first Asian to win a Nobel prize in Literature. He was the founder of Viswa Bharati and Santiniketan.

First Rupee 150 coin issued by India

India’s highest denomination commemorative coin released on 9th may 2010 at New Delhi by Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee to mark 150th birth centenary of Nobel Prize winner Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore. There were two coins with denominations of rupees 5 and rupees 150 in a beautiful presentation set.

The Global Bird Watchers Conference 2010 is being held from 25th to 27th November 2010 at Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary located at the North East coastal region of Jamnagar in the Gulf of Kutch. It is at the watershed of River Ruparel and Kalindri, is a very special and unique ecosystem where fresh water and saline water habitats coexist. More than 300 species of birds recorded in the sanctuary and among them nearly 200 species seen regularly during the year. The legendary Indian Ornithologist Dr. Salim Ali visited the sanctuary in 1984 and he sighted 104 species on a single day.
