Baku is competing against five other Applicant Cities: Istanbul, Tokyo, Rome, Doha and Madrid. In May 2012 the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee will announce the official Candidate Cities competing to host the 2020 Games.

Innsbruck 2012 — the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games
Overview: Innsbruck will be hosting the first Winter Youth Olympic Games from 13 to 22 January 2012! Some 1.500 athletes and officials from 60 National Olympic Committees and estimated 500 media representatives will be welcomed. Athletes aged between 14 and 18 years will compete in the 7 Olympic winter sport disciplines and take part in an authentic Culture and Education Programme.
Mission:
The Winter Youth Olympic Games 2012 in Innsbruck aims to inspire youth around the world to embrace, embody and express the Olympic values of Striving for Excellence, Friendship and Respect. Furthermore it will create a lasting sports, culture and education legacy for local and global youth, as well as enhance and elevate the sporting culture of Innsbruck.
