the Birth of The Venerable Buddhadasa Bhikkhu (1906-1993)

A pioneer in the promotion of the inter-religious understanding through dialogue among people of different faiths, Buddhadasa Bhikkhu, a famous Buddhist monk, was highly respected worldwide.
He left his monastery to rediscover the integration of Buddhism in the world and the spirit of its origins.
His emphasis on the interdependence of all things made of him a precursor of ecological thought and a champion of peace among nations.
His writings, which have been translated and published in many languages, have had a very considerable influence on the renewal of Buddhist thinking.
The thoughts expressed have the potential to guide not only Thailand, but also all societies struggling to create a just and equitable social, political and economic order.

พุทธทาสภิกขุ เป็นพระภิกษุในพระพุทธศาสนา ที่มีชื่อเสียงและเป็นที่เคารพทั่วโลก ท่านเป็นผู้บุกเบิกในการส่งเสริมความเข้าใจระหว่างศาสนา โดยใช้การสานเสวนาระหว่างเหล่าศาสนิกต่างศรัทธา
ท่านได้ละอารามที่เคยพำนัก และได้ค้นพบแนวทางในการผสานพุทธศาสนาในโลก ให้สอดคล้องกับแก่นธรรมคำสอนดั้งเดิมอีกครั้ง
ท่านยังเน้นย้ำถึงหลักการอิงอาศัยกันและกันของสรรพสิ่ง ทำให้ท่านเป็นผู้นำของความคิดเชิงนิเวศวิทยา และผู้ประกาศจุดยืนเพื่อสันติภาพระหว่างประชาชาติทั้งหลาย
งานเขียนของท่าน ซึ่งได้รับการแปลและตีพิมพ์ในหลายภาษา มีอิทธิพลอย่างมหาศาลต่อการฟื้นฟูวิธีคิดแนวพุทธขึ้นใหม่
ความคิดที่ท่านได้แสดงไว้ มิเพียงแต่จะสามารถชี้ทางให้กับประเทศไทยได้เท่านั้น หากยังรวมถึงสังคมทั้งปวง ที่กำลังพยายามสรรค์สร้างระเบียบทางสังคม การเมือง และเศรษฐกิจ อันเที่ยงธรรมและเป็นธรรมอีกด้วย
