IRRI was established on December 9, 1959 with support from the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations and the Philippine government, when an agreement was signed by the parties to form IRRI. In 1960, the first Board of Trustees of IRRI met on 14 April - this date is now recognized by IRRI as its foundation date.
In 2010, therefore, IRRI celebrates its 50th Anniversary.
